Shall we give you a tour?

The history of Le Capoulié, an iconic building in Montpellier

Located on Rue de Maguelone, Le Capoulié is a historic building in the Écusson district of Montpellier. Built in 1897 to host the Paris-Montpellier department store, its architecture was innovative for its time, featuring large glass windows and a steel structure. In 1917, Le Capoulié gained an additional floor under the supervision of architects Léopold and Louis Carlier. Unfortunately, in the 1960s, the store closed its doors.

After several changes of ownership, the Le Capoulié building in Montpellier underwent a major restructuring in 1980, when it was divided and sold as condominium units. This redevelopment marked a turning point architecturally: while the building retained its original façade, its entire internal structure was demolished and rebuilt in reinforced concrete, giving it a modern skeleton behind an authentic exterior.

Over the years, the Le Capoulié building in Montpellier housed Midi Libre, the Tourist Office, the Health Prevention Center, and the Youth Center. It thrived until 2010. For a long time afterward, the building remained vacant despite calls for projects from the City aimed at encouraging new retail businesses.

In 2022, Enerfip became part of the history of the Le Capoulié building in Montpellier by purchasing the second floor alongside Ace Associés, an accounting firm. After more than a year of renovation work, our teams moved into the offices in October 2023.

Our philosophy: restoring Le Capoulié to its former glory

If you know us even a little, you know how proud we are of our region — and especially of our city. It was only natural for us to establish ourselves in Montpellier, right in the heart of the Écusson district. Why?

First, to contribute to revitalizing the city center by renovating a historic building like the Le Capoulié building in Montpellier. This approach also helps limit urban sprawl and excessive new construction.

Second, to offer our teams a workspace that is easily accessible via sustainable transportation — whether by tramway, bus, bicycle, or simply on foot.

Offices designed for collaboration and well-being

Once the renovation work was completed, the tools cleared away, and the dust settled, the Le Capoulié offices in Montpellier were ready to welcome the teams. The goal was to create a workspace that was both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional. As part of a QWL (Quality of Work Life) approach, the leadership team, with the help of an architect, designed spaces tailored to everyone’s needs.

  • A bright open space: Flooded with natural light, the open space is the heart of our Le Capoulié offices in Montpellier. During the day, work and focus usually go hand in hand with calm (more or less…). During conferences or afterwork events, it transforms into a vibrant and welcoming social space.
  • An open kitchen: As the famous saying goes, “the kitchen is the heart of the home.” The same applies at Enerfip! Located at the center of the open space, the open kitchen serves as both a workspace and a place for connection during lunch breaks or social moments (Epiphany cake, Candlemas, and more).
  • The Rotunda: Thanks to its architecture and abundant natural light, this meeting room in the Le Capoulié building in Montpellier is everyone’s favorite and the most sought-after for appointments.
  • An amphitheater: Equipped with televisions, stools, a sofa, and integrated storage, it provides the ideal setting for team gatherings — whether to present projects, share results, or hold collective discussions. Its comfort even appeals to some for a quick lunchtime nap.
  • Glass-fronted offices: Located opposite the open space, these offices are designed for those who need a quieter, more private environment, such as our Investor Relations team, who are frequently on the phone.
  • Closed meeting rooms: Like our silent pods, these rooms are enclosed spaces where ideas can flourish, debates can unfold, and decisions can be made confidentially. True cocoons for collaboration, they encourage focus and collective creativity.
  • A reception area: Located at the entrance, this space serves both as a waiting area for clients and a relaxation corner for the team. With a sofa, armchairs, and a coffee table, it’s the perfect place to connect informally and take a break during the day.
  • Silent pods: The advantage of an open space is conviviality. The downside is noise. That’s why silent pods were installed in the Le Capoulié offices in Montpellier, allowing everyone to work quietly, make phone calls, or hold small meetings.
  • A storage area: Dedicated to equipment and supplies, this space ensures that the offices remain uncluttered and organized.
  • Shower rooms: In addition to six restrooms, we have three shower rooms, enabling team members to balance professional life with sports activities.
  • Ace Associés’ offices: Enerfip shares the floor with this accounting firm, which has designed glass offices, a reception desk, and a welcoming space combining a kitchen and a game room.

As part of an eco-responsible approach, the Le Capoulié offices in Montpellier are furnished with second-hand items. Refurbished chairs, vintage lockers, and reclaimed shelves have been given a second life, reducing the carbon footprint associated with fitting out our offices.

Les Bureaux du Cœur — what is it?

Les Bureaux du Cœur is a non-profit organization that aims to address inadequate housing by enabling people in vulnerable situations to access decent accommodation and a dignified life, regardless of their income or social status.

To achieve this, the association partners with companies that make their professional premises available for emergency individual accommodation in the evenings and on weekends, when the offices are unoccupied.

The beautiful story of Le Capoulié in Montpellier

In 2025, we hosted a Syrian refugee in our Le Capoulié offices in Montpellier for six months through Les Bureaux du Cœur. During that time, he passed his French exam and secured a work-study position in the hairdressing sector. As a result, he was able to access permanent housing and continue building his professional path.
