Isn't it time to step up your game to support the ecological transition? Indeed, our actions have an impact on climate change. The design of sports equipment, the organization of sporting events, the watering of fields, pollution due to travel, waste management, the creation of sports goodies... All of this can sometimes harm our planet. So, how can we protect our environment? It's not about giving up sport, but about practicing it differently.

Get in top shape with the French sports federations

Did you know?
France has more than 36 million sports enthusiasts and more than 16 million licensed members.

The “Sustainable Development, Sport is Committed” label

Are you familiar with the “Sustainable Development, Sport is Committed” label? Created in 2009 by the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF), it is nevertheless considered a benchmark in terms of sustainable sporting events. For over 10 years, it has been promoting the approach of sporting event organizers who are committed to developing events that meet environmental, social, economic, and ethical criteria.

"This Label was created in 2009 following the publication in 2008 of the Sport Charter for Sustainable Development. Inspired by this charter, the label responds to the need to put into practice the sporting commitment mentioned in theory. This label's mission is to stimulate the implementation of sports organizations in a reasoned sporting practice, respectful of sustainable development and eco-responsible. A set of listed actions that supports the development of ecological and responsible sporting events. Objective: to increase the positive impact and reduce the negative impact on the planet of each sporting event. »

Audrey Wittersheim, Sustainable Development and Outdoor Sports Officer at the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF).

The figures

  • Since its creation, nearly 500 events have been certified.
  • From 2009 to 2019, these events raised awareness among nearly 4 million people (700,000 competitors, 315,000 spectators, and 92,000 volunteers) about the values of sport and sustainable development.
  • Organizers are awarded one of 3 certification distinctions: gold, silver, or bronze.
  • The certification includes 34 criteria divided into 6 categories, namely: responsible and sustainable governance, social and professional development of stakeholders, respect and involvement of participants and spectators, environmental protection, compliance with rules and ethical values, as well as territorial anchoring and heritage.
