Learn about different types of EV charging stations, their benefits, and how to invest in sustainable mobility projects with Enerfip.
Eco-friendly, quiet, and affordable, electricity has plenty to offer! Seen as a key driver of the energy transition, it helps diversify the automotive market. Electric and hybrid vehicles, in particular, are opening the door to a booming and competitive market: electric vehicle charging stations. The sector now needs to adapt and deploy the necessary infrastructure to meet growing demand.
However, with so many charging solutions available, it’s not always easy to know which one to choose. What are the different types of electric vehicle charging stations? What are their advantages and drawbacks? We explain everything in this article!
Don’t wait—discover our guide to electric vehicle charging stations!
Like the famous debate over “pain au chocolat” versus “chocolatine,” French speakers argue over the term: should we say borne de recharge électrique or station de recharge électrique? Whatever you call it, it’s the same thing!
An electric vehicle charging station is equipment designed to supply electricity to electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles. Its purpose is to recharge the vehicle’s battery so it can operate independently. Charging stations can be found in public spaces—such as parking lots or service stations—or installed directly at home, making them a practical solution for those who want mobility and sustainability.
To meet user demands and preferences, electric vehicle charging solutions come in three main categories. Discover their features, uses, and find the one that best suits your needs!
Did you know?
63% of drivers living in a home equipped with a charging station charge their vehicle at home almost exclusively.

A home charging station is installed at your residence to recharge your electric or hybrid vehicle. This eliminates the need to go to a garage or parking lot for charging. It’s a real time-saver and can also lead to significant savings if you choose an electricity plan with off-peak hours.
For optimal performance, it is recommended to install a reinforced socket with 3.7 kW power for faster charging. You can also invest in a charging station with power between 7.4 and 22 kW: at minimum, it provides around 100 km of range in 3 hours of charging. Fully charging a battery typically takes an entire night.
Public charging stations can be found on streets, in parking lots, shopping centers, and service stations. Faster than home charging, they are ideal for quickly recharging your vehicle and getting back on the road.
As demand rises, the number of public stations is increasing, and pricing varies depending on the region and network availability.
Fast charging stations, also known as high-voltage charging stations, are often found on highways. They are the go-to solution for long trips, allowing you to regain 80% of your battery range in under 30 minutes, thanks to a 50 kW power output.
Although the cost remains higher, they save valuable time and allow you to resume your journey quickly.
