Biomass energy is a form of bioenergy derived from the processing of organic matter from the biosphere. Biomass energy results from the direct combustion of biomass resources (wood, straw, vegetable oils, etc.) or from their conversion into gas (fermentation or gasification of fecal matter, for example). In the latter case, it is called biogas, which can be used as fuel or converted into heat or electricity.
