Renewable energies: ever more job creation

Did you doubt it? The energy transition is, according to the Director General of Irena, "unstoppable."

"Renewable energies have become a pillar of low-carbon economic growth around the world," adds Adnan Z. Amin. In its latest report, the International Renewable Energy Agency takes stock of job creation in 2017.

France on the European podium

Located third out of the 28 member countries, behind Germany and the United Kingdom, France has 107,000 jobs. A significant portion is concentrated in biomass and biofuels, while wind power accounts for 18,000 jobs. While France is among the world's top 10 in terms of new installed capacity in 2017, Germany remains by far the champion in all categories, with nine times more jobs in this sector alone.

10.3 million jobs worldwide

With more than 500,000 jobs created last year, renewable energies confirm that the energy transition is one of the driving forces of the job market. These positive figures should certainly be correlated with the solar boom in China. The country alone accounts for more than a third of the world's renewable energy jobs, with 3.8 million, including 2.2 million in solar photovoltaic. The other two heavyweights are the United States and Brazil, with 893,000 and 786,000 jobs respectively.
