What is the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE)?

The French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) is an independent administrative authority that ensures the proper functioning of the energy market and arbitrates disputes between users/consumers and operators/producers. Its regulatory powers apply to the gas and electricity markets, where it monitors transactions between traders, producers, and suppliers, as well as transactions carried out on organized markets and cross-border exchanges. It also ensures that the offers from these market participants are consistent with their economic and technical constraints. It is primarily on the basis of these latter prerogatives that it is responsible for organizing and monitoring the national tenders launched to drive the country's progress towards the objectives of the Energy Transition Law.
